Privacy Policy
Last updated 23 October 2026
This policy explains what information AskItti collects when you use it, why, and who it is shared with. We collect as little as we can.
What we collect
- Your account. When you sign up, our sign-in provider Clerk stores your email address, your name and profile picture if you give them (or they come from a social sign-in such as Google), and sign-in records such as the time, device and IP address.
- Your questions. Each question, along with the conversation so far, is sent to our server to write the answer. We don't keep a history of your chats: the conversation lives in your browser and is gone when you start a new chat or close the tab.
- Your ratings. When you rate an answer with a thumbs up or down, we save the rating together with the conversation up to that answer and your account ID. We use these to check and improve the answers.
- Server logs. Our servers keep short-lived technical logs (for example, which game a question was matched to and whether a step failed) to keep the service running.
How we use it
We use this information to run AskItti: to sign you in, answer your questions, keep the service secure, and improve the quality of answers. We don't sell your information, show ads, or use it for marketing. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in providing and improving the service you asked for.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of providers to run the service. They process information only on our behalf:
- Clerk: accounts and sign-in
- Anthropic, OpenRouter (and the model hosts it routes to) and Voyage AI: the AI models that read your question and write the answer. They receive the conversation and nothing about who you are (see below).
- Fly.io: hosting for our servers, database and uploaded files
- BoardGameGeek: game cover images are loaded from BoardGameGeek's servers, so your browser connects to them when it shows the covers
Some of these providers are based outside the UK, including in the United States. Where that happens, we rely on the safeguards they provide for international transfers.
How we keep it safe
- Your account stays with Clerk. Your email address, name and sign-in details are held by Clerk, which is independently audited to SOC 2 Type II (see Clerk's security page). Our own servers only see your account ID, which we use to check you're signed in and to link your ratings to you.
- AI models never see who you are. We don't send your name, email address, account ID or IP address to any AI provider. They only receive the text of the conversation. Requests through OpenRouter only go to model hosts that don't store or train on them. The AI does read what you type, so please don't put personal information in your questions.
- Ratings stay in our own database. Ratings and the conversations saved with them are stored in our database, hosted on Fly.io, and only we can access them.
Cookies and browser storage
We only use the cookies Clerk needs to keep you signed in. If you ask a question before signing in, it is held in your browser's session storage so it can be sent once you've signed in, then removed. We don't use analytics or advertising cookies.
How long we keep it
Your account stays until you delete it. Ratings and the conversations saved with them are kept while they're useful for improving answers, and are deleted with your account if you ask. Server logs are kept for a short time and then discarded.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct, export or delete the information we hold about you, or object to how we use it. You can change your details from your profile menu, or email us at support@askitti.com. If you're unhappy with how we handle your information, you can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Children
AskItti is only for people aged 18 or over, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone younger. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 18, we'll delete it. If you think a child has signed up, email us at support@askitti.com.
Changes
If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top, and let you know on the site if the changes are significant. See also our Terms of Use.
